  28. Introduction
  29. Orator V1.14 is  a new Qwk mail packet reader for Windows
  30. V3.1. This programming project was the first undertaken by myself
  31. both in the PC market and in Visual Basic (The language the 
  32. system was written in). 
  33.  
  34. I hope that you find it as much fun to use as I found to
  35. write. Compared to the work that I have been doing before
  36. this really was an interesting program to write. If you
  37. find Orator to be useful then please be honest and
  38. register this copy. There is an order form included with
  39. this Archive. See Registration below.

  57.      NDX files are no longer needed as opposed to older versions 
  58.      so reconfigure you mail door settings if it currently includes 
  59.      NDX files.

  61.      Personal Mail is shown under a separate group.

  63.      New to 1.12 is the introduction of a folders system. This allows
  64.      you to open your own folders with their titles and archive 
  65.      messages to them. You can then:
  66.     
  67.     a)      View them and cut them to the clipboard so that you can
  68.         include them in replies and other applications.
  69.  
  70.     b)      Print them out.
  71.  
  72.     c)      Move them between folders if you decide to reorganise them.
  73.  
  74.     d)      and of course delete them.
  75.  
  76.      New to 1.14 is an on-line system for storing InterNet, UseNet, Fidonet
  77.      and Rime Email addresses for later quick retrieval when replying to 
  78.      correspondents.

  83. The unregistered version of Orator V1.14 is fully
  84. functional apart from taglines. If Orator is not
  85. registered then the following appears at the bottom of
  86. all your Mail Messages:

  92. In addition to this there is a screen that appears every
  93. time Orator is started prompting you to register the
  94. product. This can be eliminated by registration.

  96. Included in the archive is a small program called
  97. ORATVIEW.EXE. This is the program used together with its
  98. PIF file to view files in ANSI format. I myself would
  99. confess that this program requires a little bit of work
  100. carried out on it and it will be one of the first items
  101. to receive attention qhwn time permits.

  103. Warranty
  104. Although rigorous testing has been carried out, bugs cannot be avoided.
  105. I can however guarantee that the worst that Orator could do is not read
  106. your mail<g>. 
  107.

  113. INSTALLATION
  114.  
  115. 'Unzip' the archive to a floppy or temporary directory on 
  116. your hard drive.
  117.  
  118. Start Windows and from the File menu (Or File Manager) run
  119. the Setup Program on the floppy (Or Temporary directory on
  120. your hard drive)
  121.  
  122. The installation is self explanatory and will carry out all
  123. work necessary.
  124.  
  125. #### NOTE ####
  126. When you first run Orator it will inform you that no
  127. Configuration file has been found and that it is about to
  128. create one. Click on OK and proceed to Orator
  129. Configuration below. Note Orator stops after this initial
  130. configuration and must be restarted after configuration
  131. has been completed.

  134. Orator Configuration
  135. A dialog box reveals the following fields to be
  136. completed. Note Orator attempts to build defaults into
  137. the fields if this is the first time you are running
  138. Orator. Make your changes as required and press (ENTER)
  139. or click on OK
  140.  
  141. Default QWK Path
  142. Enter the full path name including drive name for where
  143. Orator can find your QWK packets.
  144.  
  145. Default REP Path
  146. Enter the full path name including drive name for where
  147. Orator Can find and should place any of your REPly
  148. (.REP)files.
  149.  
  150. PKunzip (inc Path)
  151. Supply here the full command including path and drive
  152. name for your chosen archiver extract command. Use %1 to
  153. represent the archive name and %2 to represent the path
  154. for the Work files eg
  155.  
  156.       C:\PKZIP\PKUNZIP %1 %2
  157.  
  158. tells Orator that the command PKUNZIP is in library PKZIP
  159. on Hard Disk C. When actually unzipping something the
  160. value of %1 is replaced with the name of the Archive to
  161. be 'unzipped' and %2 is replaced with the path to place
  162. all the files extracted into.

  165. PKZip (Inc Path)
  166. As above but instead give details for the Archiver
  167. Archive Command. %1 will be the Archive file to be
  168. created and %2 will be the files inc path to be added to
  169. the archive.
  170.  
  171. Signature File
  172. Is not obligatory however the contents of this text file
  173. are appended to all your replies before any tagline. Such
  174. a file might contain your name and USENET address for
  175. example.
  176.  
  177. Left Hand Controls
  178. Select this if you are an existing user who is used to 
  179. having the Scroll bar and Prev/Next buttons on the message
  180. reading form appearing on the left hand side of the form as
  181. opposed to the more standard Windows position on the right.
  182. New users should leave this unselected as they will find reading
  183. more comfortable.

  186. Orator Menu/Commands
  187.  
  188. File
  189. This menu is used to Open/Close/Delete packets, Configure
  190. Orator or exit Orator.
  191.  
  192. Window
  193. Is only active when a packet is open. This menu is
  194. otherwise disabled. Submenus to this menu are only
  195. enabled if the relevant information is available. For
  196. example the Bulletins menu won't be enabled if there are
  197. no bulletins included in the packet you just opened.

  199. Welcome - Uses ORATVIEW to show the contents of the
  200. Welcome File
  201.  
  202. Session - Uses ORATVIEW to show the contents of the
  203. Session.TXT
  204.  
  205. Messages - Starts a new form to handle the reading of
  206. Mail See Below
  207.  
  208. Replies - Starts a new form to Enter/Delete replies
  209.  
  210. Bulletins - Uses ORATVIEW to read any Bulletins
  211.  
  212. News - Uses ORATVIEW to read any BBS News included.
  213.  
  214. Files - Uses ORATVIEW to view the NEWFILES.DAT file.
  215.  
  216. Services - To read any BBS services with ORATVIEW
  217.  
  218. Goodbye - Uses ORATVIEW to read any Goodbye file
  219.  
  220. DataBases
  221. Folders
  222. Is used to maintain folders containing archived messages. Folders 
  223. are created during archiving but can then be manipulated from here
  224. allowing archives to be examined or deleted.
  225.  
  226. Email Address List
  227. From in here you can create addresses to store for later retrieval
  228. when replying to people over Internet, Usenet, FidoNet and Rime.
  229.  
  230. Door
  231. Like Window is only active if a packet is open. At the
  232. present one can only configure Qmail doors remotely with
  233. this however future versions of Orator will definitely
  234. include remote configuring of other door types like
  235. MarkMail, RoseMail and Kmail to name but just a few.
  236. Clicking on Qmail reveals the following menu

  239. Add a Conference
  240. To choose a new conference for future mail downloading.
  241.  
  242. Drop a Conference
  243. Allows you to select a conference to be dropped from
  244. future mail scans.
  245.  
  246. Reset a Conference
  247. To select a conference and either set it's message
  248. pointer to a specific message number to begin future mail
  249. scans from or set the pointer to the highest message in
  250. that conference. You can also state a number of messages
  251. short of the highest that scanning is to begin. A dialog
  252. box appears and asks you for the number of messages you
  253. would like the pointer to be set to short of the highest
  254. message in the conference. Blank means leave the pointer
  255. at highest for conference.

  257. Set PCBoard City.
  258. Fo
